Tariffs: Your dollar, your choice

March 13, 2025

A collage of different Canadian products.

Tariffs have been a hot topic for Canadians recently.  We know that saving money on groceries continues to be important, even as customers look to support more Canadian companies. So, as this situation continues to evolve, we remain committed to providing value to Canadians.  Here are a few ways we’re supporting Canadian businesses and families:

  • Labelling US Products: While tariffs won’t immediately affect the prices you see in-store (we’ll continue to work through existing inventory), they will eventually impact some US sourced products. To help our customers identify them, we’re introducing a new tariff symbol, “T”, to our shelf labels.

  • Look for the Maple Leaf: You may have already noticed in-store that we’re marking products Prepared in Canada with a distinctive red maple leaf. We are also featuring Canadian items in our promotions and flyers, offering points for Canadians products through PC Optimum, and enabling customers to ‘swap’ their chosen product for a Canadian alternative through PC Express.

  • More Canadian Products: We’re already one of the largest purchasers of Canadian products, and we’re working to source as much food grown or made/produced in Canada as possible. We’ve already welcomed about 30 new Canadian suppliers this year!

  • Affordable Alternatives: Our teams are actively looking for alternatives to US-sourced products focusing on comparable quality and price, both from within Canada and around the world.

  • Transparency Matters: We're committed to providing our customers with value and choice, and that means clear information about where your food comes from and what it costs. We will support Canadian businesses, when possible, while continuing to work with our trusted suppliers around the world.

We’re in this together and will continue to work to minimize the impact of tariffs and offer our customers the best possible shopping experience.
